I totally understand the desire to maximize assets and he is a free agent at the end of the year, but I think they are much better off keeping him around. Team chemistry and just a general lack of fight to me is one of the biggest problems on this team. They are unable to absorb any kind of pushback or gut punches in the flow of a game, without then getting completely steamrolled. They need guys like Simmonds instilling some fight in the young kids and teaching them how to manage the ups and downs. That seems like a much more valuable use for him that flipping him for a late round pick that isn't going to become anything.

Anybody have a count on how many of Hughes' passes are right on Wayne's stick in an open shooting position just for him to miss completely? Not sure how keeping him around teaches the young guys anything other than you can not be of NHL talent and be in the league still.

It would be great if we could get a 2nd for him, but I expect a 3rd.

I wouldn't give up a 3rd for him if I was another GM. He has late draft pick return written all over him.

I love Simmonds style of play and he is certainly a guy we'd all love to see turn back the clock; but clearly he is pretty done.

If you get an offer for him you have to take it; but if we can't move him it's no a tragedy.

I would agree. And would love to use that third to move up in the first round if it makes sense rather than seeing what this third might become.

This year is a write-off. Maybe its not a great message to send to current season ticket holders, but true fans of this organization want to see continued steps in the right direction. Simmonds has been a big disappointment, and if trading him can bring in any asset, i'm happy. We have 20 games left in the season, and pro-rating that, would mean Simmonds still should get another whopping 2 goals and 6 assists. I'd trade those numbers for a 7th rd. He also has not been a physical force so what is the point in keeping him??? If he gets us a 5th rd pick, trade the guy. I'd rather have Anderson and Hayden up here showing us if they have any potential to become true NHL players.

Tank and get some picks boys

Simmonds isn't a disappointment to me because I expected exactly this level of play from him. He skates like an old man with minimum flexibility or agility. It's like he struggles out there and I feel bad for him. A good player with a shorter career.

A 7th round pick would be an over payment. He adds no value to any roster.

And I expected the reduced numbers. I was just hoping for a 15 goal, 20 assist season with physicality being a big part of his game. His offense has been brutal, and I don't blame him for a decline, but he could easily step up his physicality. Palms and Zacha play a meaner game, and that just isn't what I was expecting. But I would take any draft pick over keeping him.

Ugggh. Seems like last year. Watching the standings. Hoping teams near the bottom play better than the Devs. It disgusting.

I really admire Simmonds and what a great competitor he’s been his whole career but any return is worth taking.

It wasn’t a bad gamble but $5M for this level of production is unjustifiable.

I keep having nightmares that the Coyotes miss the playoffs, don’t resign Taylor Hall, then win the lottery and we don’t get their draft pick for another year.

Every game that Nico doesn't play, I question why I even bother turning the game on.

I was there in person and Hughes held it down tonight. Miss Nico though. Was hoping he'd be better by tonight.
